This pulp and paper mill has high pressure steam generation. Prior to the implementation of this project, the majority of the steam was let down through pressure reducing valves and then used in the process. In order to reduce purchased electricity costs and take advantage of the power generation potential of its high pressure steam, this client purchased and installed a reconditioned double extraction condensing steam turbine with a hydrogen cooled generator and auxiliary systems.
Temec Engineering Group Ltd. was retained to provide all the civil, structural, mechanical and piping engineering services required to complete the project. Temec also selected and sized the cooling towers for the turbine condenser heat rejection. Many of the original turbine auxiliary systems were replaced or redesigned which presented an additional challenge to the design team.
Temec also provided construction supervision services and assisted with the integration of the new turbine controls with the existing mill distributed control system.
